Catastrophe by Max Hastings and The Story of the Jews by Simon Schama were among those selected as The Telegraph’s History Books of the Year.
Edmund Burke by Jesse Norman and In It Together by Matthew D’Ancona were included in the best Political Books of the Year category.

Catastrophe was also included in The Sunday Times‘ History Book of the Year. While The Road to Le Tholonet by Monty Don was selected as one of the best Gardening Books of the Year.
Writers and critics, including our own Max Hastings, selected their favourite books of 2013 for The Guardian; William Boyd chose Philip Hook’s Breakfast at Sotheby’s, while Stephen Frears selected Into the Silence by Wade Davis.
