Kriss Russman studied at Caius College, Cambridge where he received a doctorate in music. He worked as a producer and director for BBC Television’s music and arts department for ten years and his broadcasting achievements include an EMMY nomination, a US Cable Ace trophy, an award from Britain’s Royal Television Society and two awards from the Royal Philharmonic Society.
As a conductor and composer, he has performed with major European companies including the Hungarian State Opera, Prague State Opera and the London Symphony Orchestra. His first opera ‘Happy Birthday, Mr President’ was commissioned and premiered by the Rostock Volkstheater in Germany in 2013. He has just realised and completed George Butterworth’s Orchestral Fantasia which was left unfinished before Butterworth was killed in the First World War. He will conduct the work with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales on a Butterworth disc for BIS Records to be released in 2016, the centenary of the composer’s death, and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra will give the UK premiere in November 2015.
