J. Kent Messum‘s novel Bait, has been shortlisted for the 2014 Arthur Ellis Award for Best First Novel! The Arthur Ellis is awarded for excellence in Canadian crime writing, but this award encompasses more than just the traditional whodunit. Bait is a dark psychological thriller set on a desert island.
There are seven categories for this award, and three judges for each category, that’s twenty-one judges! The judges are volunteers including award-winning writers, booksellers, librarians, and avid crime fiction fans across Canada. The judges, therefore, represent a broad and knowledgeable cross-section of the reading public.
The 2014 winners will be announced at the Arthur Ellis Awards gala dinner on Thursday, June 5, at the Arts & Letters Club in downtown Toronto.
